Let Go and Let God:A FallacyPublished by: Editor on Fri, 19 December 2003 04:14:03 | (3232 Reads)Originally Written by: Elder Louis Culver on October 5th 2003 This expression contains a fallacy. While we may be able to "let go," we are not able to "let God." When we find that we have been caught up in the things of the world, the things of Satan and of sin, we are able, through the strength of God within us, to let go - to let go of the worldly things to which we have been holding. We will hold to the world with every ounce of strength within us - until we are made to see how foolish it is to hold to the perishing and perishable things of the world. There is no comfort in knowing that we are clinging to a sinking ship. Those who remained with the Titanic had no joy in knowing that they would soon be swallowed up by the powers of the deep, by the very ocean itself. The child of God who finds himself clinging to the sinking ship of this world also has no joy in that action. While we may be able to "let go" of the worldly things, we cannot "let God." God is all-powerful, all wise and all loving toward His people. The only reason we are able to let go of the world is be- cause God has worked a work of salvation within the hearts of His people. Only then are we able to let go. Daniel 4:34 And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up Daniel 4:35 And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as no- Today at Ebenezer Primitive Baptist Church at Sterrett, Alabama, Brother Sam Owens, age 18, came forward and asked for a home with the saints of God at that location. Brother Sam was received amidst much rejoicing. Brother Sam "let go" of the things of the world, but he did not "let God". God had already performed His work of grace within Brother Sam before Brother Sam ever took a single step toward the visible church at Ebenezer. Elder Louis Culver
