A Banner of LovePublished by: Editor on Thu, 13 May 2004 03:23:32 | (3142 Reads)Originally Written by: Elder Vaughn Winslett on May 12, 2004 Song of Solomon chapter 2 vs 4, "He brought me to the banqueting house, and His banner over me was love." As blessed as we are by the grace of God, being enabled to see Jesus Christ we should be overwhelmed by God's love for His own. Scripture through the Holy Spirit, teaches us that God's only begotten Son, the second person of the Godhead Trinity, eternal in glory, died for the sin of His people. He left glory behind and was born of a virgin in this world of sin and death, this alone is beyond human comprehension. He suffered to be terribly beaten, spit on, mocked, and ridiculed. He suffered to hang upon the cross in terrible agony. He suffered to die, to lay His life down, because he loves His people, and His father with a love so great that we cannot fully understand while we live in this mortal body. He, being God, has brought us to the banqueting house. God loves us. God saved us. God brought us to Him. God brought us into His presence, into His love, into His church. God covered us with the banner of His love. In His love He has done everything for us. His love is the banner which draws as it teaches of Jesus and protects us from evil. "We love Him because He first loved us," 1st John v19. God causes us to love each other. We are to love God. We are to love each other. We are to love the brethren. Love is the fulfilling of the law. God is love. Everything we do should be in love of God and love of the brethren. If we receive from the Lord a new member, it is in love. If we have trouble with each other, in love we can follow Matthew 18 to work the problem out. If we admonish a brother it is to be in love. In the sadness of turning one out of the church, it is to be in love as a brother. If we love each other we do not backbite or spread rumors. We do not tell lies. Certainly we do not take part in the liberal practices the devil tries to deceive us with. We do not teach "no hell," universal salvation, absolutism, missions or any false doctrine. The watchman is to stand on the wall God put between the church and the world. However, he is not to hide in a secret place and backbite, condemning his brother. James 5 v19-20 "Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins." When we follow the teachings the Lord gave us, when we love God first and foremost, when we love each other, the church will be prosperous in the Lord. Our hearts will not be filled with hate. Instead of misery we have joy. I certainly do not agree with the liberalism creeping into the church. If we lose our identity we cease to exist as the true church. I also want no part of the hate which seems to be brewing. This is written in deep love for our Lord and our God. It is in love for you and my brethren. Pray for me, Note : Concerning resentment in the church Note: Comments are owned by the poster. We are not responsible for their content.

A Banner of Love
Posted by: chocolatehills on May 15, 2004 09:47 PMThe four Filipino ministers who recently visited the US with Elder Harter came to our church at Columbia PBC in Burtonsville, MD.
Two of them slept at my house and that gave me opportunity to talk with them more closely in our language (I am from the Philippines). My primary concern was to find out if t is true that Calvinism has truly crept in to our doctrines. The two assured me that no, they are strictly of the Spirit Regeneration and believe exactly as Primitive Baptists do, and have believed these doctrines, and taught these doctrines, three years before they even met Elder Harter. Their churches have been split three years before they met Elder Harter precisely because they refused to toe the line of Landmarkism, and of the Bible Baptist Fellowship from which two of them came from.
I asked them about the money issue, and they specifically denied being offered monetary support in exchange for their joining the PB's as have been charged. They know of no Philippine church that have been so offered support, under the alleged charges. They affirmed that Elder Harter did help them get by financially for two years, but even that began a year after they were baptized into the Primitive Baptists.
We at Columbia support the Philippine work for as long as there are no substantiations that can be given by those who charge Elder Harter of liberalism. I have suggested to the members that I will post the name, address, and bank account number of each individual minister the church had come to know thru their visit, and whoever among the members would like to send help, financial or otherwise, can select one minister whom they will regularly help and any help they wish to give will be sent directly to the minister's address or bank account, and not thru Elder Harter, or thru his website.
