O! what a blessing, when we see our sons and daughters coming to the
house of the Lord, joining in the services! Singing with joyfulness,
praying with fervor, listening to the preaching, to the Word of God,
as we deliver God's message as best we can.
We are taught to bring up a child in the way he is to go and when he
is old he will not depart from it. Train children in the nurture and
admonition of the Lord and thereby give them that sure foundation on
which to build their house.
As parents we agonize over the paths our children follow, over their acquaintances they make -- friends and otherwise -- and pray all the
while that God will walk with them and be their guide and protector.
We cannot be everywhere they are, but we can beseech God to care for
them in our absence as well as in our presence.
Life presents many challenges both for parents and for children. One
challenge for parents is to know when to hold on and when to let go.
Sometimes, we want to hold on when God has said to let go. God never
lets go, but is always there for His children - no matter where they
may have wandered, no matter where they may have strayed.
Because we love our children, we worry about their welfare, desiring
to know their condition in life, and earnestly hope and pray for the
very best of everything for them. Because of God's love for His own,
He sees that they have the things they need, in order to live a life
in service to Him. God watches over His people and shields them from
the dangers of Satan, protecting them when no one else can.
To look out over the congregation and see our children earnestly and
patiently, wholeheartedly and sincerely drinking in God's Word as we
strive to deliver that Word as God has given it to us, gives us such
a great feeling of peace within.
Thank you, Lord, for such rich mercies toward us. Such blessings are
so great: we just cannot fathom the depth, ascend to the height, nor
compass the breadth of them.
Thank you, Lord.
